New around here? WoW Rookie points WoW’s newest players to the resources they need to get acclimated. Send us a note to suggest a WoW Rookie topic.
Just spent half an hour fruitlessly spamming the Trade channel in hopes of getting your new gear enchanted? Maybe (just maybe) the players on your server aren’t the most unfriendly, unhelpful people this side of Silithus. Maybe you simply haven’t figured out the most effective way to use [2:Trade].
According to loyal WoW Insider reader Sarabande, there’s more to successful in-game transactions than simply advising someone to “use the Trade channel for trade.” We agree – so this week, let’s cover some basic tactics to get your sales sold, your portals ported and your enchantments enchanted.
Link it. Links get noticed. Whether you are buying or selling an item, linking entices players to click. Once they click, you’ve caught them in your (nether)web. To insert a link into a chat channel (which works in whispers, party chat, guild chat, raid chat and Trade), hold down Shift and left-click on the item. Other players can click on that link to bring up the item’s tooltip. You can

This week information about the final boss of Ulduar has slowly been revealed, thanks to the guild Wraith on EU-Ysondre. We never got to meet Algalon the Observer on the PTRs so this encounter is one of the most mysterious, both in terms of tactics and of lore.
From what I’ve seen it’s also one of the most gorgeous, but wow goldthen again, I like stars and floating planets. Algalon himself is an entity composed of stars, a spectral being who is not uncompassionate to the heroes who have come to kill him. He just has a job to do. A job which could see our world being put in serious – even cataclysmic jepoardy.
Needless to say, from here on in, there be SPOILERS about the actual boss fight so read on at your own peril!
Basically it goes like this: Algalon is an ethereal agent of the Titans, Azeroth’s creators. He’s detected the death of Loken (when Loken said: ‘My death heralds the end of the world’, he wasn’t kidding) and that Yogg-Saron has tried to escape his bindings. When you engage him, he is about to do a scan to determine whether Azeroth needs ‘reorganising’ by the Pantheon, his Titanic masters. Said scan takes

Tribunalx sent us this great video about something that’s fallen out of fashion lately: Hunter soloing. Back in the day, when Mend Pet was still affected by plus healing (back when there was plus healing), Hunters would routinely take down Azuregos by themselves, but they’ve since had to sit on the sidelines while other classes stepped into the solo arena. But now, with Mend Pet and Bestial Wrath glyphs, a Hunter stacking Stamina in PvP gear, the new version of Deterrence, and pets with their own Tenacity talents, Hunter soloing is possible yet again.
As Tribunalx says in the video, it’s not really easy, and there’s a lot you have to keep track of (and Hunters definitely aren’t the only class that can do this — there’s probably a Paladin soloing UK and/or a Death Knight out there as well). But it is definitely possible, as you can see above. Maybe we’re experiencing a renaissance of Hunter solo possibilities — next up, The Nexus? Good luck with the Ormorok gauntlet.

Karthis at Of Teeth and Claws raises an interesting question concerning “helper” mods for DPS rotations — should they be considered cheating? He observes that, whie they may be a godsend for classes and specs with more difficult rotations, many of them remove the need to think about anything other than following the mod’s instructions on what skill to use and when. He writes, “If a chimpanzee was trained to press the key that corresponded to the skill that Face Mauler popped up, then it would put out insane DPS without understanding even the very basics of what it means to be a feral cat.”**
The issue leaves me somewhat torn. There’s no way around the fact that Karthis is right; mods like these — and they exist for several classes — make it possible for players to do great, or at least acceptable, DPS without understanding the class and spec they play. They also have the side effect of encouraging tunnel vision on the mob/s rather than what’s happening in the raid (and, as someone who plays a tank, I must admit I hate dealing with an utterly oblivious DPS). Nobody wants to see a lazy player rewarded with excellent DPS

I am definitely an advocate of the fast instance or raid — when I played a tank, I pulled pulled pulled (according to the healer’s mana, of course), and even now, mostly as a Hunter, I still get impatient. When the healer’s mana is full and the tank is not /afk, I sometimes just throw a Misdirect up and go. That’s probably why I really liked Naissa’s tips for speedy raiding — she lays out a few really practical things you can do to get your raid moving faster, from only marking skull and X when necessary to only worrying about the healer’s mana. It’s not the end of the world if the Mage or Hunter has to drink for a second after the pull. While you should always get back to full before a boss pull (and as she says, that’s a perfect time to break down the basics, only the basics, of the fight), usually as long as you’ve got the tank and healer ready, a quick pull will give you time for aggro to settle down as well.
I don’t completely agree with her DPS meter remarks — I do think that beating the raid is much more important than trying to win the DPS meters, but as a DPS player, I like viewing the meters as

We’ve received a lot of reports of Mac users having problems with the login servers this afternoon, and the Tech Support forums certainly lend some weight to those reports. The thread isn’t a 26+ page behemoth yet, but it’s only getting started. We don’t know how widespread the issue wow goldis quite yet, but it seems significant enough.
Blizzard representatives are on the case, and while they haven’t fixed the exact problem, they have found a workaround: This is only happening with the World of Warcraft specific login servers, and thus it’s only happening to World of Warcraft specific logins. If you merge your World of Warcraft account into a Battle.net account, you will be able to log in.
It’s no fix, but if you’re desperate enough to play and haven’t yet merged your account over, now is a pretty good time to do it. Personally, I’m not sure why you wouldn’t do it anyway, but that’s just my preference talking. If this login issue gets worse before it gets better, we’ll be sure to let you know.
Update: This issue appears to be cleared up, but please let us (and Blizzard of course) know if that’s

The9 has been the target of persistent rumors over the last few months that they’re on the verge of losing their license from Blizzard to operate World of Warcraft in China. First, we heard about their financial troubles, and then came rumors that Blizzard was going to ditch them. And now we’ve got WorldofWar.net reporting a rumor that Netease will be the company to take over the reins there. It makes sense — Netease has been growing a lot during their history, and they successfully operate Fantasy Westward Journey, an MMO with a US value of $761 million, with 400,000 average concurrent users. They’re already supposed to take over Blizzard’s Warcraft III and Starcraft II in China, so Blizzard will actually be consolidating their properties.
The rumor supposedly comes from a leaked internal memo to The9 employees, which says that an unnamed company (supposedly Netease) is trying to pick up the rights and hardware for the game for a cool $22 million. The9 reportedly paid $73 million for the same capability, so they’re losing twice on the deal — both the license and the money they spent on it.
Not good news for The9 if it all turns out to

Out of the blue tonight, the blustering Blizzard Blue bard Eyonix, came out and let us know about a few things that’ll be happening with the Patch 3.1 battleground queue (see what queuing will be like now):
Players will not be able to queue while dead.
If you queue and accept to enter a battleground while in flight, you’ll be returned to a designated destination.
Now the first point is clearly to prevent dodging of corpse runs or mess around with corpse camping.
As far as the second point, this is interesting and pretty much provides another way of ghetto hearthing in some circumstances (remember, ghetto hearthing is being removed in patch 3.1). Not that you should take advantage of this or anything, and chances are it’ll be hotfixed relatively quickly upon release of patch 3.1.

With Ulduar due to hit in the near future, Tales of a Priest addressed a pretty timely subject for 25-man raiders yesterday with a blog post on Val’anyr and how you’re going to assign it. As it’s a constructed Legendary like Atiesh rather than being a dropped item like the Warglaives and Thori’dal (sudden thought: why do the caster Legendaries have to be assembled, whereas the melee/ranged Legendaries just drop?), you’re going to have to put some time and thought into which one of your healers is going to get this baby first.
It’s not exactly the world’s most comfortable question for a guild leader, but I like how Derevka lays the issue out so matter-of-factly, and then goes on to address an interesting point concerning Val’anyr’s proc. Your ideal candidate is a good healer with great attendance who plans on hanging around for a while, but then there’s the question — which class gets the most use out of the proc?
Between Derevka’s commentary and a few notes from the Wowhead thread, it does seem as if Paladins and Discipline Priests are the classes/specs most suited to Val’anyr’s shield proc.
